[Scene fades into the Trinity College Gymnasium. The room is empty, but the ring is all set up ready for the opening night of CCW Epic Encounters. As the camera pans around the room, 'The Protagonist' Jamie Jackson comes into sat in the middle of the stands with his feet up on the row in front.]
Jamie: Less than 48 hours to go before the renaissance of wrestling in Washington DC. Something the capital can be proud of when comes to the science of the squared circle. Hundreds of fans here to see blood, sweat, tears, a steel cage, and a walking cliché monster get pound to the ground. That's right, Damage, you need read between the lines. I'm talking about you.
I'm hearing stories about the past. Tales of previous battles. Your past victories count for nothing here. This is a clean slate. You may think your reputation precedes you but your record right here is no more, and no less than anyone elses.
I may not have won any accolades. I may not have a made a name for myself before now. But I've paid my dues. I got my break in England on the tour circuit. It wasn't glamorous, and it wasn't enjoyable at times. But it was all good experience.
[He stands up and begins to walk slowly through the seated area and down the steps.]
Jamie: It's not fun busting your gut in front of small crowds, some nights to just forty or fifty people. But every time I stepped through those ropes I used it as a lesson. Each night was part of an endless precession of semi-retired jobbers looking to hurt me. Some nights they weren't even bothered if they won, they just wanted to inflict pain. But I knew that wasn't gonna be it for me. Maybe for some of those guys that was all they'd amounted to, but I wasn't destined to traipse round bingo halls and holiday parks all my life. I served my time and booked my flight here.
I know what an opportunity this is for me. I haven't come here with an ego. I know who I am and where I've come from to get here. Damage you seem pretty self-assured, that because a few matches in OCW you'll pick up right where you left off. It doesn't always work like that, friend. On paper you have won more. On paper you have taken more names. And on paper you are almost twice my size. But paper never won wrestling matches. Talent did.
[As he makes past the front row of seats he climbs up onto the ring apron and into the ring.]
Ezra calls this 'David and Goliath'. We all know that story, it doesn't end well for you. I don't see it that way though. David was the underdog, who over came a man he should never have beaten. I'm not up against a Goliath. I'm up against a colossus. A colossus in size, sure, but also a colossus on ego. A man who believes his own hyperbole even if no one else does. Let me tell you, Damage, I've wrestled the low-lifes, the has-beens, the felons, the prima donnas of this world. I know one when I see one. The independent scene is littered with self-praising idiots like you. This may or may not be David versus Goliath, but the main story here will be all about 'The Protagonist', that I can assure you.
[Scene fades out.]
